Materials Management Directorate (MMD)

Materials Management Directorate Building

Located on the grounds of the Princess Margaret Hospital, the Materials Management Directorate was established in 1993 to provide services to the public sector hospitals, community clinics and public health programmes with respect to the procurement, warehousing and distribution of medical/surgical supplies and other related equipment and materials.

Materials Management Directorate is facilitated by the work of a multi-disciplinary committee known as the S.A.V.E. (Supply Analysis Valuation and Engineering) Committee. This committee is responsible for ensuring that there is appropriate evaluation and standardization of new and existing medical/surgical products being purchased for the agencies of the Ministry of Health and the Public Hospitals Authority. This process very often involves contracting the services of internationally based specialist firms such as ECRI (Emergency Care Research Institute - an independent non-profit health services research agency) to obtain additional advice, analysis and evaluation of products and equipment.

Materials Management Directorate, simply defined, is an integrated system of functions and departments responsible for getting materials from the point of origin (manufacturer / supplier) to the point of use and ultimate disposition. To have the right product in the right place at the right time in the most cost effective manner to serve efficiently the healthcare needs of the end consumer.
