Grand Bahama Health Services

Community Clinics

Within the Grand Bahama Health system, community clinic services are currently provided through seven main clinics and three satellite clinics on the island of Grand Bahama and the surrounding cays.

These main clinics are located in the settlements of Eight Mile Rock (pictured), McClean’s Town, Hawksbill, High Rock, West End, Sweeting’s Cay and Grand Cay, Abaco.

Satellite clinics are located in Freetown, Pelican Point, and Waters Cay.

Additional community-based services under the Grand Bahama Health system include Maternal and Child Health, School Health Services, Home Visiting and District Nursing Services; Oral Health Services; and Public Health Programmes for Immunization, Communicable Diseases Surveillance, Port Health, and Environmental Protection.

The local health system concept was instituted in Grand Bahama in 1985 in response to the need for advancement of the vision of continuity of care within the island and adjacent cays, strengthening the capacity for managing the health services locally and maximizing the health resources on this island. The arrangement became a model of success under standards of the World Health Organization for the development and administration of health systems and services throughout the region and internationally.
