Overview

The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) is a quasi-government establishment responsible for the management and development of public hospitals in The Bahamas.

Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH),(PMH), a tertiary care facility, provides acute care and specialty services for inpatients. There is also a large Outpatients Service, which includes Accident and Emergency and General Practice and Specialty Clinics.

Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre (SRC) provides inpatient geriatric care and psychiatric care including treatment for substance abuse. Its major outpatient facility is the Community Counselling and Assessment Centre, which provides psychiatric, psychological and health social services including substance abuse treatment and rehabilitation.

The provision of public healthcare in Grand Bahama is the responsibility of the Grand Bahama Health Services (GBHS) via the Rand Memorial Hospital (RMH) and nine (9) rural health clinics. Rand Memorial Hospital (RMH) provides general acute and limited levels of specialized services for inpatients; and also emergency and specialty care for outpatients. .

National Emergency Medical Services, Bahamas National Drug Agency and Materials Management Directorate form the Shared Services branch of the Public Hospitals Authority. These three entities are defined as “shared services” in view of the fact that their respective mandates encompass services provided by both the Public Health Department (in New Providence and the Family Islands) and the PHA.
